Lee Pace might be known to a majority of moviegoers as Ronan the Accuser in Guardians of the Galaxy, but he’s about to take another turn as a villain in the upcoming Stephen King adaptation, The Running Man. The actor joins Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Katy O’Brian, and Daniel Ezra in the cast. Edgar Wright is directing the film and co-wrote the script with Michael Bacall. Production begins early next year in London.

The original book, The Running Man, was published in 1982 by Stephen King under the pseudonym Richard Bachmann. It was set in 2025 and told a story of America under a totalitarian regime that uses violent game shows to keep the masses busy. The novel focused on one man who was desperate for money for his sick daughter, so he goes on the most popular show, The Running Man. It’s a brutal and violent show where a team of killers go after contestants. Think American Gladiators, but the people getting smacked by athletes are actually dying. Powell is playing the desperate man and hero in this new adaptation. Josh Brolin was announced as a ruthless producer of the game show, while Pace is playing the chief hunter for the network inside the game.

Paramount is releasing the movie on November 21, 2025. The previous adaptation of the novel came out in 1987 and featured Arnold Schwarzenegger and Richard Dawson.
