Renny Harlin is back to blockbusters (not like he really left) with The Strangers: Chapter 1. Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland wrote the script. It stars Madelaine Petsch, Froy Gutierrez, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath. If you’ve never seen any of The Strangers movies, you don’t really need to go back for this one because this is it’s own contained story. If you’re in need of a synopsis, however, here is one.
After their car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. Panic ensues as they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive in THE STRANGERS ― CHAPTER 1, the chilling first entry of this upcoming horror feature film series.
These types of movies work because it’s absolutely frightening, and then you add the supposed randomness on top of it. You or I could be the target of these attacks and it seems like they’re just happening at random. The Strangers: Chapter 1 releases in theaters on May 17th. There are two more Chapters arriving some time after this first part.
