One has to think that Sony backed up the Brinks truck to Jennifer Love Hewitt’s house because she’s joined up the requel/sequel of I Know What You Did Last Summer, AFTER the film started production. Freddie Prinze Jr. has already been confirmed to reprise his role from the original movies, but Love Hewitt was the wild card. She confirmed her involvement in the film in a post on Instagram.

It’s never too late to go back. Julie James is returning. I know what you will be doing next summer

Sony has the new film dated for July 18th, 2025. There aren’t any plot details as of now, but if you’ve seen the original film, you’ll know that it followed four friends who were part of a tragic accident and then brought together by a hook-wielding maniac in their small town. It was written by Kevin Williamson and based on Lois Duncan’s novel. Jim Gillespie directed the 1997 film. It spawned two sequels, one in 1998 and another in 2006. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. only returned for the 2nd film. This marks 27 years since they’ve appeared in the series.

They’re joined by newcomers Billy Campbell, Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, and Gabbriette.

We’ll have to see how the new film turns out. We’ll keep you updated on all things I Know What You Did Last Summer.
