The Breed might not be among the films considered to be smash-classics from the producing side of Wes Craven’s filmography. The 2006 Nicholas Mastrandrea-directed killer dog film has been mostly looked over in recent years. However, that isn’t stopping Hollywood from remaking the film. Variety is reporting that the film is being directed by Sean and Bryan Furst and Grace Caroline Currey (Fall, Shazam 2) is set to star.

The new film is being described as “an unconventional reimagining of the Wes Craven cult classic,”. That’s a strange description because Craven didn’t direct or write the film, he just produced it. Curmudgeon Films will be producing The Breed. Here’s their official logline for the film.

“Violet [Grace Caroline Currey] is a rebel icon and badass on a mission to search for abandoned dogs on a remote island which leads to complete adrenaline-fueled terror.”

As for any other details, that’s about it.

Currey recently starred in the horror flick Fall, which was about daredevil climbers getting stuck at the top of a 2,000-foot communication tower in the middle of the desert. She also played Mary Marvel in Shazam: Fury of the Gods for DC Films. We’ll have to see how the film takes on the source material and if it can properly remake and re-adapt the 2006 film!

Here’s the logline for the original film.

A group of five college kids are forced to match wits with unwelcoming residents when they fly to a “deserted” island for a party weekend.
