Here’s the official synopsis for the film from Paramount Pictures:

When an environmental crisis sees London submerged by flood waters, a young family is torn apart in the chaos. As a woman and her newborn try and find their way home, the profound novelty of motherhood is brought into sharp focus in this intimate and poetic portrayal of family survival.

The End We Start From is based on the 2017 novella by Megan Hunter. Alice Birch (Dead Ringers) adapted the novella’s screenplay. Mahalia Belo (The Long Song, Ellen) directs the film.

The End We Start From stars Comer, who previously won a BAFTA for COVID drama Help, as well as an Emmy for her work on Killing Eve. She recently starred in the theatre production Prima Facie, for which she won a Tony Award.

In addition to Comer, the film also stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Katherine Waterston, Joel Fry, Gina McKee, Nina Sosanya, and Mark Strong.

The End We Start From had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. It was also an official selection at the BFI London Film Festival and the AFI Fest.

The End We Start From premieres in theaters nationwide January 19. Tickets are on sale now.
